Celebrate the Christmas Season in the Town of Bowling Green

We invite you to celebrate the Christmas Season with us in the Town of Bowling Green on December 12, 2009.  Activities start at 11:00 AM and continue throughout the day.  There will be a Holiday Art Exhibition and Sale at the Bowling Green Town Hall, tours of the Historic Caroline County Courthouse with costumed interpreters, sale of handmade items by local artisans in the Caroline Museum Gift Shop located in the Caroline Museum and Cultural Center (Old Commissioner of Revenue Building), and the Christmas Parade starting at 5:00 PM.  This year’s theme is “The Christmas Lights of Caroline”.  More details on each event are provided below.

The Town of Bowling Green Art Commission is sponsoring a Regional Fine Art Juried Exhibition in the Bowling Green Town Hall at 117 Butler Street on December 12, 2009.  This exhibition is open to all artists.  Artists must comply with specific requirements for a review of their work in advance of the exhibition to be selected for participation.  Specific information can be found in the attachment at the bottom of this page.  A key date to remember for submission of the entry fee and photos of your work is November 14, 2009.  Selected artists will be notified by November 28, 2009.  Finally, the exhibition will be on December 12, 2009 with set up at 11:00 AM and take down at 7:00 PM.  Awards will be presented.  Please contact Barbara Byrd at (804) 633-3042 for additional information.

The Caroline Museum Gift Shop in the Caroline Museum and Cultural Center will host the Holiday Gift Shop to highlight the creations of local artisans on Saturday, December 12, 2009 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at 121 North Main Street (former Caroline County Commissioner of Revenue building) in Bowling Green.  Specific information can be found in the attachment at the bottom of this page. The deadline to rent vendor space is Friday, December 4, 2009.  Vendor space is limited and goes quickly, so submit your application as early as possible.  All items for sale must be handmade and the Museum reserves the right to reject items deemed not suitable for sale.  Please contact Kathy McVay at (804) 633-5731 for more information.

The Town of Bowling Green is excited to bring back an old tradition.  The Bowling Green Christmas Parade was first celebrated and sponsored by the town in the 1970s as an evening event.  Later in the 1980s through last year, the Parade was sponsored by other organizations singularly and in joint partnership with the Town and held as a daytime event.  This year the Town of Bowling Green will return as the sponsor and organizer of the parade and bring back the tradition of a nighttime parade.  This year’s parade theme is “The Christmas Lights of Caroline”.  Start time for the parade is 5:00 PM.  For those wishing to provide an entry for the parade, the application is available at the bottom of this page.  The key date to remember to secure your place in the parade is December 4, 2009.  Please contact Kathy McVay or Virginia Brooks in Town Hall at (804) 633-6212 or Susan Sili at (804) 633-9084 for additional information.
