The Planning Commission is a seven-member commission appointed by the Town Council. All members of the Planning Commission are private citizens and must be residents of Town of Bowling Green. Members are appointed for four-year terms with the primary purpose of reviewing subdivision and land development applications submitted to the Town and providing recommendations to the Town Council. The Planning Commission promotes and coordinates comprehensive long-range planning, growth-management, transportation, and environmental protection; reviews and makes recommendations to ensure the Subdivision and Zoning Ordinances remain current with the Town’s needs; and updates the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, as it makes its recommendations on all matters for which it is responsible to the Town Council for final decision. One member of the Town Council serves as the Town Council’s Representative to the Planning Commission.
The Planning Commission meets monthly on the third Monday unless the meeting date falls on a holiday which moves the meeting to the following Monday. The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 PM in the lobby of the Town Hall at 117 Butler Street. The meeting is open to the public and all interested parties are invited to attend. Meeting dates can be found in the Town Government calendar on this web site and posted in Town Hall. The agenda for the next meeting can be found on this page.
If you are interested in serving on the Planning Commission, you can express your desire in writing to the Town Manager. Your letter will be kept on file until the next vacancy occurs at which time you will be contacted to confirm your desire to serve on the Planning Commission. The Town Council will consider all applicants and select an individual by vote of Town Council to fill the vacancy. An appointment to the Planning Commission may be made to complete an unexpired term for an unforeseen vacancy or begin a full term for a member whose service is fulfilled. Local and state-level training opportunities are available for newly appointed Planning Commissioners to ensure your responsibilities can be professionally met. If there are costs associated with the training, the Town will provide funding.
